An image sensor's sensitivity to light is controlled by the ISO setting. Adjusting the ISO is great way to compensate for challenging lighting conditions. There are times when certain aperture and shutter speeds are needed to control depth of field for an image and adjusting the ISO in low low light allows for proper exposure. This image was caught right at day break when the light was low. Using the higher ISO setting allowed the photographer to avoid longer shutter speeds, eliminating potential unwanted movement.
