Silhouettes provide a way to add a lot of contrast and drama in an image. To achieve this look, the subject needs to be between the light source and the photographer. It is important that the exposure be metered off light source and not the subject. This will allow the background to be exposed properly and the subject to be underexposed, giving the characteristic silhouette. Additional adjustments were made in post processing to amplify the effect.
